Information on John Henry Putnam:

1. History of Contra Costa County, CA, 1926 - biography of George A.Putnam includes information about his father. It says he left NewYork in 1853 bound for CA via the Isthmus of Panama. 2. San Francisco Passenger Lists, Vol. I - J Putnam arrived in SanFrancisco on 5 Mar 1853 on the ship Cortes, 14 days from Panama.Rough weather and very strong winds for several days. 3. History of Alameda County, CA (1883) - History of San Leandro saysthat J. H. Putnam was one of the committee members appointed to draftan act of incorporation for the town in February, 1872. During thefirst town meeting on May 13, 1872, he was Marshal elect. He resignedon February 16, when Frederick Bryant was appointed to replace him asmarshall. 4. According to "The Putman Family Bulletin," Vol. 7, No. 2, (1995),Donald A. Keefer of NY discovered unpublished baptismal records fromthe Reformed Dutch Church of Canajoharie at the Archives of theSchenectady County Historical Society in Schenectady, NY. Theserecords included the baptisms of Cornelia Ann, Mary Margaret, and JohnHenry Putman.
