bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• His obituary was published in the Examiner on 24 Oct 1800 in Richmond, Virginia. 1

• He was elected as Representative to the Virginia Convention of 1776 in 1776 in Nansemond County, Virginia. 2 The convention adopted the Virginia's first constitution, which at the same time was the first written constitution of a free state in history.

• He served in the military as Commandant of the county militia in Nansemond County, Virginia. 3 In May of 1779 the militia marched to Suffolk to oppose Sir Henry Clinton rampaging through Virginia. The one hundred militia men were overwhelmed by the British. Suffolk was burned and supplies captured.

• He was elected as the county's Representive to the Convention of 1788 in 1788 in Nansemond County, Virginia. 3 The convention ratified the constitution of the United States.
