In 1805 John Martin Shuey came with his family in flat boats down theOhio River to Cincinnati, thence to the Miami Valley, settling nearGermantown, where both he and his wife remained until their deaths.Martin Shuey was a private in Capt. Casper Stover's 3rd Company, 2ndBattalion, Lancaster County Militia, in 1780 and 1782.

The 1790 Census for the "remainder of the county" of Dauphin County,Pennsylvania, lists the Martin Shuey household as consisting of: 1 male 16 years or older (This would be Martin Shuey.) 2 Males under 16 years of age (This would be sons John and Martin,Jr.) 5 Females (This would be Elizabeth Shuey and daughters Catherine, Christiana, Barbara, and Margaret.) 0 Slaves
