Lewis Henry Shuey was six years old when he was brought to the United States with his parents and three brothers. On December 21, 1761, he purchased 64 3/4 acres of land from his father, Daniel Shuey, it being a portion of the 268 3/4 acres which Daniel bought in 1753. This land bordered several acres which Lewis Henry Shuey already owned, making him a man of considerable property.

Lewis Henry Shuey had at least two sons who fought in the American Revolution. John Martin was a private in Capt. Casper Stover's 3rdCo., 2nd Bn., Lancaster County Militia, the same company in which hisbrother, John Ludwig, also served.

Lewis Henry Shuey was also called Ludwig, Ludwick, Ludwich, andHeinrich Shuey.

The 1790 Census of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, lists the following:
